HSE University and Shandong University Discuss Cooperation Opportunities
On June 26, HSE University campus on Pokrovka hosted a meeting with a delegation from Shandong University, a partner institution since April 2024. This cooperation has already enabled eight HSE students to participate in an exchange programme in the spring of 2025, with another eight set to join in the autumn semester. Additionally, four students from Shandong University will attend HSE University summer schools in 2025.
During the visit, both parties engaged in discussions about potential avenues for cooperation in education and research, focusing on academic exchanges, joint educational initiatives, and thematic internships. They paid special attention to shared interests in international relations, humanities, and social sciences.
Participants included representatives from Shandong University as well as staff from the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, the Faculty of Humanities, and the Faculty of Social Sciences at HSE University. The meeting underscored a strong mutual interest in furthering partnership between the two institutions, particularly in expanding academic exchanges, especially in teaching the Chinese language.
The HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs expressed enthusiasm for collaborative projects in international relations, including topics related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and climate change, inviting master's and doctoral students from Shandong to participate in the Russian-Chinese Summer School for young scientists in 2026. The humanities took centre stage as Shandong showcased their comprehensive Chinese language teaching resources and offered to both share their existing materials and co-develop new instructional guides tailored in line with HSE University's requirements.
Faculty members from HSE Faculty of Social Sciences noted that their research and teaching agendas align closely with those of Shandong University's School of Political Science and Public Administration. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to student and faculty exchanges, as well as joint research initiatives in management, politics, and Russian and Asian studies.
Following the meeting, the parties outlined several steps to sustain academic dialogue, enhance exchange programmes for students and faculty, and ensure regular communication at both leadership and school levels.
