Roundtable: «BRICS Approaches to the Development of Settlements in National Currencies»

On September 26 from 16:00 to 17:30, a roundtable titled «BRICS Approaches to the Development of Settlements in National Currencies» will be held as part of the activities of the International Thematic Group of the BRICS Network University on Economics.

This event will bring together experts and members of the academic community to discuss current trends and key challenges in developing settlements in national currencies within the BRICS framework.

For participants, this roundtable offers a unique opportunity to gain insights from expert analyses and perspectives on strengthening financial independence, mitigating risks associated with the use of third-party currencies, and advancing mechanisms for mutual settlements.

  • Potential solutions to challenges posed by the current dollar-centric financial system for BRICS countries.
  • Strategies to enhance the liquidity of national currencies within BRICS cooperation.
  • The potential for establishing a closed multilateral settlement system.
  • The role of central bank digital currencies in the process of de-dollarization.

The roundtable will be moderated by Olga Vladimirovna Biryukova, Associate Professor at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, Senior Researcher at the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies and the Laboratory for Responsible Business, and Academic Director of the «World Economy» educational program.

The event is organized by the Multilateral Strategic Projects Office in cooperation with the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University.

The roundtable will be conducted in an expert discussion format. Participants are welcome to attend as audience members.
